North Greenford United 2-1 TAFC Reserve team

Athletic visited North Greenford whose first team play in the Combined Counties League and currently sit top, aiming for promotion to the Southern League. Given the winter weather we've seen this year the playing surface was in great condition. We were missing Matt Myatt and Steve Ashby both through suspension but were able to bring in Tom Newman for a start at the heart of defence and welcome Andy Mullins for his first start since an injury in November.

Tring got off to a flying start forcing a corner in the first minute. Paul Jeffrey swung in a great ball to the near post which was flicked on by a home defender straight towards Terry Phillips' head at the back post. Athletic's skipper headed just inside the near post for one of the most under-celebrated goals ever seen!!

Jack Thompson and Andy Mullins had chances to extend the lead however the home side equalised after about half an hour. A cross from the left was flicked on to an unmarked forward who finished with a firm volley. Athletic found themselves behind a few minutes later from a good strike from 25 yards.

At the start of te second half player manager Ben Williams' wheels came off and he was forced to substitute himself. James Espirit came on up front with Jack Thompson dropping back into midfield. After a good workout Andy Mullins waqs replaced by Chris Belle on 70 minutes. Tring continued to press for an equaliser and the defence were alert to the home side's counter attacks. Both Aiden Bailey & Tom Newman made important tackles and the one time United broke through Keith Eldridge saved a one on one. It ended honours even for the season as Athletic had won the reverse fixture 2-1 on the opening day of the season.
