Cockfosters 0-0 TAFC First team
UNBEATEN RUN CONTINUES

Tring's unbeaten run was stretched to 9 games on Tuesday evening with a hard fought 0-0 draw against a strong Cockfosters outfit.

In 22 previous encounters with Cockfosters there had never been a 0-0 draw between the two sides, and how this one remained goal less remains a mystery with plenty of goal mouth action at both ends. The first half started at a great pace with both sides attacking. Athletics defence had to be on its guard against ‘fosters lively forwards with an early scare when Varouxakis smacked a shot against the post after 3 mins. On a bumpy pitch both sides continued attacking and although Tring struggled to test home keeper Byfield it was a pretty even half. Two big scares for athletic came when Dan Steadman cleared off the line, and then Varouxakis threw himself to the ground when it looked easier to score, earning himself a booking in the process . Our best chance of the half fell to top scorer Chris Vardy who shot wide after great work from the industrious Luke Dunstan. HT Score 0-0.

The second half lacked the same intensity as the first, with Cockfosters getting the better of the chances and man of the match Jack Hopwood twice had to save with his feet when the fast Cockfosters forwards were clean through on goal. Tring tried to liven things up by bringing on Jack Sunderland, Jamie Warne and Callum Gregory but to no avail! FT Score 0-0.

All in all a great point away from home against a very good Cockfosters side who had 16 shots on the Tring goal but this was far from a one sided game and an excellent advert for south midlands football. Team spirit was very evident through out the game and top marks to Hoppy in goal who made some fantastic saves despite pulling his groin early in the game, George Carbery who had a good full debut in midfield and to George Brinkman who came over to the supporters after being substituted to apologise for his performance even though he had a pretty decent game !!
