Spartan South Midlands Premier Division
TAFC First team 0-2 Sun Sports
After Athletics tremendous result in midweek they were hoping to follow this with a win against Sun Sports, who just eleven days ago triumphed one nil in the away fixture.Athletic however did not perform to their ability and Sun Sports deservedly took all three points.
Athletic began the game kicking down the slope,a chance fell to Chris Stapleton in the first minute but this was easily saved by visiting keeper Matt Evans. For the next 20 minutes Sun Sports dominated the game,Athletic conceded possession too easily and also gave away too many free kicks in dangerous areas, luckily only one created problems for the home defence with keeper Jack Hopwood having to save twice before the ball was cleared. In the 24th minute Sun Sports opened the scoring, Luke Dunstan appeared to have been fouled while vying for the ball, the referee however showed no interest in Athletics appeals which allowed Kyle Johnson an unopposed run on goal. Athletic came back into the game and were unlucky on a number of occasions but could not find that telling final ball.Visiting keeper Matt Evans saved a Chris Vardy chance with his legs in the 33rd minute.Athletic won a number of corners but these were easily dealt with by the visitors defence.A disappointing first half for Athletic ended with Lee Stobbs firing just wide.
H.T 0 - 1
Athletic started the second half on the front foot,Chris Stapleton having a free kick scrambled away by the keeper and forcing two corners in quick succession. The game was fairly even with few chances although Chris Vardy hit the side netting in the 71st minute.Athletic were getting frustrated with a number of decisions going against them but could not find a way through a well marshalled Sun Sports defence.Neither keeper had a great deal to do during the half, both sides were giving possession away too easily.Substitutions were made by both sides and with five minutes left Sun Sports were awarded a penalty,Luke Dunstan bringing down a forward on the right side of the
penalty area.Kerran Lataille stepped up to score with the spot kick. In stoppage time Athletic nearly scored, which was probably their best chance of the game, when Chris Vardys cross just eluded Jack Reed at the far post.
