TAFC First team 5-0 Colney Heath

TAFC goals: Christopher Vardy (2), Max Hercules, Jack Read, Own Goal
This was Athletics first home game of the month and the players responded with a welcome and convincing win against middle of the table Colney Heath.

Athletic started the game with purpose by pressing the visitors defence and winning a corner in the 3rd minute and then scoring in the 7th minute from a free kick. The ball was played into the area, Chris Vardy flicked the ball on with his head only to see the ball bounce unusually high and completely deceive keeper Steve Cunningham. Just 2 minutes later the lead was doubled. A long ball was played to Max Hercules whose pinpoint cross found Chris Vardy who gladly took the opportunity to head into the goal.

Following this early Athletic pressure Colney Heath came into the game. Firstly Daniel May shot from distance which went wide and then James Hill nearly scored from a direct free kick that also went close. Athletic then created some neat football but the final ball into the area just eluded Chris Vardy. Colney Heath created further opportunities with the dangerous James Hill getting into some good positions. Joel Norris then had a great chance but keeper Lewis Todd was equal to the task. Following this spell of pressure Athletic then put together a neat move down the left, which saw the impressive Jack Sunderlands cross finding Max Hercules who scored by lobbing the oncoming keeper.

Both sides were still creating opportunities as the first half drew to an close but it was Athletic who went in at half time with a 3 nil advantage.

The second half began in similar fashion to the first half. Both sides attempting shots on target but with neither keeper having to make any difficult saves. Max Hercules made a chance for himself in the 54th minute but his shot from just outside of the area went just wide. There was little to choose between the teams with both sides having equal possession. Athletic brought on Jack Read and Luke Little in the 69th minute for Chris Vardy and George Carbery. This nearly brought its reward but Jack Reads goal was rightly disallowed for off side. Following an Athletic corner Colney Heath broke quickly, the ball finishing up with striker James Hill, who fortunately for Athletic, shot high and wide from a dangerous position. Athletic then brought on Elliott Goward for a welcome return from injury for the industrious Luke Dunstan in the 74th minute. Athletic began to dominate the latter stages of the half and were rewarded with a goal by Jack Read following a terrific shot by Joe Fitzgerald in the 86th minute. With the 90 minutes up and following some great pressure by Jack Sunderland,Colney Heaths Sam Doolan scored an own goal from a chance for Max Hercules.

A great result for Athletic following a difficult fixture list with all the players constantly pressuring the opposition and showing great energy and ability. Athletic now look ahead for their next game on Saturday, which will be the last home game of the season against Edgware Town
