Tring Athletic Reserves 2-0 AFC Hayes

On a truly horrible day the game was rememberable for Ollie Ruttle ,doing his laces up 16 times in the first half ( a new Guinness Book of Records entry), lasting 90 mins and in fairness for his second half coming close to a MOM performance.

Playing up the slope we started well enough and within 2 mins Joe Naylor cut in from the left and smashed a cross shot against the bar with their keeper soundly beaten.

Our opponents made little headway but our midfield was far from what was required with a lack of communication and desire to take the game by the scruff of the neck. An altercation between surprise ,surprise Gareth Terblanche and their midfielder seemed to fire our opponents up and they started to,get back in the game but the only danger came from a well delivered cross from their left hand side.

Several well delivered George House corners were effectively ignored by players who were in good position and several crosses from our left by Joe Naylor and Ollie Ruttle just failed to reach their intended targets.

As the half time whistle blew guess who got a yellow card ( together with his opponent) for a minor tussle.


Playing down the slope we improved slightly and AFC Hayes spent little effective time in our half.

After 15 mins of fairly nondescript football Ollie Ruttle did well to get to the byline and cross from the left for Frankie Hercules (TBH) to tap in on the far post .
5 mins later after neat work by Teddie Paul and Will Foley ,Joe Naylor ran across the 18 yd box and tucked the ball back across the keeper.

This changed the game and apart from a header disallowed for offside with 10 mins to go we saw the game and having demoralised our opponents we kept the ball to earn 3 points.

Congratulations to Tom Withers another of Cliff s U 18s who made his debut for 15 mins at centre half and apart from one error showed composure and ability on the ball and off it.
